The effect of hyoscine N– butyl bromide on the duration of active phase of labor

چکیده
Background and objective: Hyoscine N-butyl bromide acts by inhibiting cholinergic transmission in pelvic parasympathetic ganglia and antagonizing muscarinic receptors of smooth muscles in the abdomen and pelvic organs, thus relieving spasm aiding to cervical dilation. This study is to assess the efficacy of Hyoscine butyl bromide on cervical dilation in multigravid pregnant women during the active phase of labor. Methods: A randomized clinical prospective trial was conducted in maternity hospital in Sulaimaniyah, from 1 of January to the 1 of July 2010. Women were consecutively randomized into: the study group (A) who received 40 mg Hyoscine N-butyl bromide by slow intravenous injection in the active phase of first stage of labor and the control group (B) who received 2ml of normal saline. Each group consists of 130 patients after excluding high risk pregnancy. Results: Mean duration of active phase of labor was 142.69 min, 258.00 min in group A and B, respectively (p-value < 0 .001). Mode of delivery and neonatal outcome were comparable. No adverse maternal or fetal effects were noted. Conclusion: Intravenous Hyoscine N-Butyl Bromide shortens the duration of active phase of labor without any unwanted fetal or maternal effects, also it effectively shortens the 2 and 3 stages of labor.

The Effect of Intramuscular Administration of Atropine and Hyoscine Combination on Labor Progress and Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes in Primigravid Women
Background: Previous studies reported that neonatal and maternal complications as well as duration of labor could be diminished through labor management. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effect of intramuscular (IM) administration of atropine and hyoscine combination on labor progress and maternal and neonatal outcomes in primigravid women admitted to Taleghani Hospital of Arak, Iran. Metho...

A novel recognition method for selective determination of the hyoscine N-Butyl bromide (HBB), an antispasmodic agent for smooth muscles, was devised using extended gate field-effect transistor (EG-FET) as transducing unit. For this purpose a PVC membrane, containing hyoscine n-butyl-tetraphenyl borate ion-pair as recognition component, was coated on Ag/AgCl wire, which was connected to the exte...

AIM To determine the effects of hyoscine-N-butyl bromide (HBB) rectal suppository on labor progress in primigravid women. METHODS A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial was carried out on 130 primigravid women admitted for spontaneous labor. The women were recruited based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and randomized into the experimental (n=65) and control group...

Introduction: Despite wide use of hyoscine by midwives and doctors as an adjunct to labor, the obstetrics literature contains few references to the effect of this drug. This study was a double blinded, randomized controlled trial of primigravidas in Iran to determine the effects of hyoscine intravenous injection on parturition (labor). Methods:One hundred primigravidas in uncomplicated spontan...

BACKGROUND Various drugs have been tried to hasten cervical dilatation so that problems and hazards of prolonged labour both for the mother and fetus are minimised without increasing maternal or perinatal mortality and morbidity. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To compare the effect of camylofin dihydrochloride with combination of valethemate bromide (epidosin) & hyoscine N butyl bromide (buscopan) on ce...
